Houseleeks - Cultivation & Ordering

Houseleeks are WONDERFUL.  The nursery is situated on a south facing slope in Hampshire and fortunately they seem to enjoy the long periods of hot, dry weather more than I do.  All those listed here are grown unprotected throughout the year.  A few varieties, particularly the hairier ones, benefit from protection from wet weather in the winter.

These rosette shaped plants come in a great variety of forms and colours and the appearance of many varieties varies greatly throughout the year (which is one of the reasons I find them so fascinating). I can spend ages just looking at them!

They are hardy and drought tolerant, enjoying a well drained soil in sun.  I grow most of mine in pots and use equal parts of John Innes No 3, a soiless compost and coarse grit.

Houseleeks are ideal for raised beds and containers and the smallest can be grown in troughs.
